About the Event

This Activity Afternoon aims to bring together different members of the community and create a fun, inlcusive and safe environment for girls and non-binary individuals to try out different activities!

The event is aimed at d/Deaf, Disabled and/or neurodivergent female and non-binary children and young people. The event is for 8+ years through to ‘young adults’. For activities, participants will be split into groups of a similar age, including a group for 18+ years. We haven’t set an upper age limit to account for different people’s developmental age, but suggest up to 30 years to keep it as an event for young people.

There'll be Kinball, Yoga and Wheelchair Basketball for you to try throughout the day, delivered by wonderful local clubs/organisations. All activities will take place indoors.

The majority of staff, volunteers and coaches are female, but there will be some male staff and coaches in attendance too.

Drop Off

  • For this event, if you and your young person are comfortable, you are welcome to drop the participant off and collect them at the end of the event. We will be operating a 3:1 ratio of staff to participants, with all staff and volunteers being DBS checked.
  • Please note, we are unable to provide 1:1 support or provide any personal care for participants. If this is required, you’re welcome to provide your own support care.
  • If you would prefer to stay then that is absolutely fine too!

Accessibility

  • The venue is wheelchair accessible with accessible parking spaces and toilets. There will be a hoist available for transferring into sports wheelchairs or using the bathroom. Due to the varying nature of slings and preferences, staff on the day will not be able to do this for participants, and a parent/carer/support staff will be needed.
  • There will be a BSL Interpreter throughout the afternoon.
  • Coaches are experienced at adapting to a wide range of needs. Providing extra information in the registration form will help staff and coaches support as needed.
  • Participants are welcome to use any aids e.g. mobility aids, ear defenders, sunglasses, fidget devices, chew toys.

What to wear/bring

  • Wear whatever you are comfortable wearing for sport. We suggest leggings/shorts/tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt and jumper. But if you want to wear something else then that's fine too!
  • Please bring a water bottle, you can refill it on the day
  • Make sure you bring any medication needed and complete medication details on the registration form
  • No food will be provided, please have lunch before attending and bring any snacks you might want

To join this event, you must book in advance.
